Delicatessen

When I am in Shanghai my business contacts generally want to buy me lunch. I can honestly tell you that there is a lot of nice food to be had in China, and Shanghai in particular but unfortunately my contacts like to treat me to local delicatessen and that is quite another story.

Can you imagine what it would be like to eat sneaker soles? No? Then try and imaging eating fried jellyfish. I have never tried sneaker but it must be quite similar. It is a combination of chewy and though and it makes your yaw want to go every which way while you can constantly hear this semi-crunching sound in your ear. Luckily it tastes like nothing or it would be unbearable.

As said, my contacts like to buy me this stuff. One day I went to Ningbo with my interpreter to visit a client and lunch was waiting, the interpreter asked me if there was anything I did not eat and I told her not really but I hoped it was not jellyfish again, well, guess what. Lucky for me they also had pickled cow intestine on the menu!

Now I am sure there are those of you reading this that think, hey this is great stuff, what are you complaining! Well, I can assure you its not my stuff and that goes for whole rivershrimp (including shell) and sweetened beef too, but please don't tell my client.
